3.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit the Website, limited technical information may be processed automatically by our hosting provider and by the content delivery services that serve images and media, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, pages visited and the date and time of your visit. This information is typically recorded in server logs for security and performance purposes. The Website stores a small number of items in your browser’s local storage to remember your cookie choice — see our Cookie Policy.

3.3 Information from third parties

We may receive your information from your employer or organization when it registers you for an in-house program, from our partner organizations when you register for a joint event, or from publicly available professional sources (such as LinkedIn) when we contact organizations about our services.

5. Newsletter and marketing communications

We send newsletters and marketing emails only to people who have subscribed or who have given consent, or — for existing clients — about programs similar to those they have attended, where permitted by law. Every marketing email contains an unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe at any time by emailing [email protected] with “Unsubscribe” in the subject. Unsubscribing does not affect service messages that are necessary to deliver a program you have registered for.

6. How we share your information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only where necessary, with:

  • Trainers and facilitators engaged by SLSD to deliver the program you attend, who receive participant names and relevant learning information and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • Your organization, if it sponsored or arranged your participation in an in-house program — for example attendance records and aggregated feedback. Individual assessment results are shared with your organization only if this was agreed and communicated to you in advance.
  • Service providers acting on our behalf, such as website hosting, email and newsletter services, cloud storage, online meeting platforms, payment processors, venue partners and IT support. They may only use your information to provide services to us.
  • Partner organizations for jointly organized events, limited to what is necessary to run the event and only where this is made clear at registration.
  • Professional advisers such as auditors, lawyers and accountants, under confidentiality obligations.
  • Authorities where we are required to do so by law, regulation, court order or to protect the rights, property or safety of SLSD, our participants or others.
  • A successor organization in the event of a restructuring, merger or transfer of our activities, subject to equivalent protections.

7. International transfers

Some of our service providers (for example email, cloud and online meeting platforms) may store or process information outside Bangladesh. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure that your information receives an adequate level of protection, such as choosing reputable providers with recognised security standards and contractual data protection commitments.

We often photograph or film our workshops and events to document them and to share them on our Website and social media channels. We will inform participants when photography or recording is taking place. If you prefer not to be photographed, please tell the event organizer or trainer at the start of the session and we will respect your wish. If you would like an image of you removed from our Website or social media, contact us and we will remove it within a reasonable time. Online sessions may be recorded for participants’ review; we will tell you before recording begins.

10. How we protect your information

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or alteration, including:

  • encrypted connections (HTTPS) for the Website;
  • access restrictions so that only authorised staff and trainers can see the information they need;
  • password-protected accounts and, where available, two-factor authentication on our systems;
  • confidentiality obligations for staff, trainers and service providers;
  • secure storage and disposal of paper records such as attendance sheets and assessments.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will take prompt steps to contain it and, where appropriate or required, notify you.

11. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access — ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your information where it is no longer needed or where you withdraw consent;
  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your information in certain circumstances;
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time;
  • Portability — ask for information you provided to us in a structured, commonly used format;
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time without affecting earlier processing.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] with the subject “Privacy request”. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We aim to respond within 30 days. We will not charge a fee unless a request is clearly unfounded or excessive. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may have the right to complain to the competent data protection or consumer authority in your country.

12. Children’s privacy

Our Website and services are intended for adults, university students and working professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18 without the involvement of a parent, guardian or educational institution. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without such involvement, please contact us and we will delete it.

13. Third-party content and links

Our Website displays images delivered from third-party content delivery networks (Unsplash and the Jetpack image CDN operated by Automattic, and archived SLSD images hosted by the Internet Archive), and allows you to play videos hosted on YouTube and open locations in Google Maps. When your browser loads this content, these providers may receive technical information such as your IP address. Embedded YouTube videos load only when you choose to play them. Social media share buttons are simple links and do not transmit information until you click them. Please review the privacy policies of these providers for details of their practices.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, technology or legal requirements. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it was last revised. Where changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to inform you, for example by a notice on the Website or by email.

15. Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Where you are located in another jurisdiction that grants you additional rights regarding your personal information, we will respect those rights to the extent they apply to our processing.
